Incredibly Warm!
These Union Suit labels say 100% virgin wool. Advertisements from the time from Windsor Wear Woolen Mills state that it is “lamb’s wool”. Advertisement is the 7th and 8th pictures, guess things have changed a bit from when these suits were made,” lamb’s wool” being one of them. This is not the wool from Mary’s Little Lamb. More like Charles Bronson and Margaret Thatcher were raising them in the Wyoming Highlands, requiring the wee lambs to fight off wolves and Grizzly bears.
I only have size 44 and 46, basically Large and X-Large, supply is quite limited and I will not be able to get more as the Windsor Woolen Mill is long closed. These suits are still in the factory wrapping in bails of three, they have never been displayed even.
Significantly less scratchy than the Stanfield’s suits I sell a lot of but still scratchy. I find mine to be a bit warmer than my 20% nylon Stanfield’s, it may also be more comfortable over a wider temperature range i.e. I overheat less quickly as the thermometer rises. These are very difficult things to quantify however other wearers agree with me. I have found that I wear my Windsor 100% wool suit more than my other Union Suits.
All buttons are two hole and there 8 on the front, one at the rear slit. Shoulders are the “Military Insert” style with no seam on the top to chafe with a pack or shoulder strap. The fabric is a bit fluffier than the Stanfield’s and the pattern appears to me to be identical. I wear a Stanfield’s Large and can wear either, the 44 is more close fitting obviously.
